Dayna Pidhoresky confirmed for Canadian Half Championships at Banque Scotia 21K de Montreal, April 17th

We’re pleased to announce that Dayna Pidhoresky has confirmed she’ll be racing for the Athletics Canada National Half Marathon Championships at Banque Scotia 21K de Montreal on April 17th.

The 23 year-old former Windsor Lancer and resident of Tecumseh, Ontario burst on the scene with a very impressive victory at the Detroit Free Press Half Marathon this past October. Her winning time of 1:13:15 was only a minute shy of Tara Quinn-Smith’s Canadian Half record of 1:12:09 that she set on the flat, fast Montreal 21k course in 2009.

Detroit was Dayna’s 4th half marathon, but her 4 and a half minute PR took her from obscurity to the ranks of up-and-coming Candian distance star in a weekend.  David Monti, editor of the international Race Results Weekly Newsletter, was sufficiently incredulous that he tracked her down via Facebook to find out who she was and whether she was legit! And now, she has an almost-full-page photo in the latest January-February issue of Canadian Running magzine!

“We’re delighted to confirm Dayna for this year’s Chmpionship Start List,” said CRS Race Director Alan Brookes. “While some of our top guys will be at Virgin London Marathon (Coolsaet, Gillis, Watson pacing) or on the track (Bairu), we’re looking to have a cracking good women’s race in Montreal – -and Dayna has set herself as the one to beat!”
