February 8th. All of us at Canada Running Series are pleased to announce the participation of a great friend and supporter — the Hon. Jack Layton, Leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party — in Harry’s Spring Run Off 5K & 8K on Saturday April 2nd, in beautiful High Park, Toronto. Jack, who used to participate regularly in our Sunday morning, 10 mile training runs in the mid 1990s, has also accepted a position as Honourary Captain of the newly-created SURVIVORSHIP TEAM. The Team’s goals are to raise funds for the Prostate Centre at Princess Margaret Hospital and promote healthy, active lifestyles. Jack walked last year’s Spring Run Off with his family, as part of his own battle against the disease in 2010.

As a prostate cancer survivor, I’m honoured to be captain of the brand new Survivorship Team at Harry’s Spring Run Off 2011. As a survivor, treated marvellously at Princess Margaret Hospital’s world-famous Prostate Centre, AND a participant in their Survivorship Exercise Program,  I invite EVERYONE to come walk or run with me in High Park on April 2nd, or support the Survivorship Team with a pledge…Together, everyday people can make an extraordinary difference!

– Hon. Jack Layton, MP for Toronto-Danforth, Leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party

For a fine account of Jack Layton’s personal battle against prostate cancer, and the role of exercise and Princess Margaret’s Survivor Exercise Program, see Monique Savin’s story, “Studying Exercise and Cancer — with Jack Layton’s help.”

Put a Pledge on Jack & The Survivorship Team TODAY, and help Princess Margaret Hospital’s Prostate Centre in the Fight Against Prostate Cancer!

Register to run or walk with Jack on April 2nd in Harry’s 5K or 8K.
