Canada Running Series announces partnership with Clif Bar & Company for 2011

TORONTO. March 11th. Canada Running Series has announced that Clif Bar & Company will be their exclusive partner for the 2011 season in the energy and nutrition bar and gel categories. The sponsorship will bring popular CLIF® BARs, CLIF Builder’s® bars and CLIF SHOT® Energy Gels to CRS events this year.

Canada Running Series is widely regarded as Canada’s #1 running circuit with eight premier events: five in Toronto, two in Vancouver and one in Montreal, including both Canada’s 10K Road and Half Marathon Championships. The Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon & Half on October 16th is their Grand Finale and signature event, with more than 20,000 participants. One of only two IAAF Silver Label marathons in North America, Toronto Waterfront 2010 had the four fastest men’s times ever run on Canadian soil, the four fastest women’s times ever run on Canadian soil, and the fastest time ever by a Canadian on Canadian soil. The top three women ran the 6th, 7th and 8th fastest times in the world last year, and all three will be starting in Boston this Spring. The Series drew 56,000 total participants last year and raised almost C$5 million for 200 mostly-local charities.

Emeryville, California-based Clif Bar & Company is a leading maker of nutritious, all-natural, organic foods and drinks, including CLIF® BAR energy bar;  LUNA®, The Whole Nutrition Bar for Women®; CLIF SHOT®, Clean and Natural Performance®; and CLIF Builder’s, The Entirely Natural Protein Bar®.  Focused on sports nutrition and healthy snacks, the employee and family-owned company is guided by the integrity and passion of founder Gary Erickson, who just wanted to make a better tasting energy bar for his epic bike rides.

Committed to creating delicious, healthy food made in a way that respects and protects the places where people live, work and play, Clif uses organic ingredients in all of its products. In addition to using only the highest quality all-natural and organic ingredients available, Clif Bar & Company does not use artificial flavors, sweeteners, preservatives or ingredients sourced from genetically-modified organisms. On a journey towards sustainability, the Company works diligently to reduce its environmental footprint in all areas of the business from the field to the final product.  Clif is guided by five equally-weighted bottom lines:  to sustain its people, brands, business, community and the planet.

The partnership with Clif Bar & Company will bring samples of both CLIF BARs and CLIF Builder’s bars to participants and volunteers throughout Canada Running Series 2011 [with the exception of Montreal]; and CLIF SHOTS will be the exclusive on-course gels for Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon [October 16th] and Scotiabank Vancouver Half Marathon  [June 26th].

“We are very pleased to welcome Clif to the Canada Running Series,” said Executive Race Director Alan Brookes. “Not only will they enrich the quality of our runs with their outstanding food, but their business  ethics, and commitment to the environment will resonate strongly with CRS participants from Vancouver to Toronto and Montreal. It’s a great partnership. We both share a commitment to excellence, to bringing the highest-quality product to the marketplace, but also to supporting and giving back to the communities we run in. We look forward to ‘Raising the Bar’ together this year.”

Clif Bar & Company joins an already strong group of Canada Running Series partners that includes Scotiabank, Acura [Honda], Oasis Juices [Lassonde], Harry Rosen Menswear, Asics, New Balance, Brooks, Gatorade and Aquafina.
