TORONTO. August 14th. Congratulations, Ken!! We finally caught up with a very happy Ken Newbury from the Aurora Running Room Waterfront Marathon Clinic group, to tell him the good news, and to find out a little more about our lucky winner who already has his reward for all the miles of marathon training — a week on the beach in the Cayman Islands in December!
A. I am 50 years old from Stouffville; I am an assistant supervisor of communications for York Regional Police and run out of the Aurora Running Room.
A. I have been running about 4 years, and in that time I managed to quit a 30-year smoking habit.
A. I had done one previously and found that running in a group encourages me to go further, you get a lot of help from the instructors and there is a great feeling of camaraderie amongst the runners.
A. I had done this one before and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. As well I am a Scotiabank customer and was impressed that they sponsor events such as these to the extent they do. I also wanted as flat a course as possible, due to hip and back problems.
A. I feel embarrassed to say this. So far only one, last year's Scotia Waterfront. And I'm no Boston qualifier material, my chip time was 4:42. Official time was 4:50 as I started right at the back of the pack up at Dundas St.
A. Overwhelmed, I was told at our Wednesday night group run. I was supposed to do 9 hills and after 4 1/2 I had to call my wife. You just can't think straight when someone hits you with this kind of news. I saw the contest was running when I signed up for the marathon and the clinic but never gave it much thought, other than would be nice to win. Still finding it hard to believe. The Caymans were on my bucket list, this is fantastic!
A. I am tremendously excited and looking forward to running on a beautiful island in great weather, and for post race recovery I think some snorkeling may help soothe sore muscles.
