Having a facial disfigurement is a social disability that can create barriers to opportunities and aspirations. AboutFace promotes emotional and mental well-being of individuals with facial differences through social & peer support, information and educational programs. We seek to raise public awareness and understanding of the challenges and abilities of people living with facial differences. We encourage them to embrace their difference, build confidence to face the world. www.aboutface.ca
AboutFace is participating again this year in the Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon because it's a great opportunity for our local members to get together and do something fun and healthy while raising funds for AboutFace. Being a small charity it's also a fabulous opportunity to get our name out there and make people aware of who we are and what we do and just get conversations started about facial differences and to let people know that it's okay to talk about it.
Our fundraising goal for the 2014 run is to raise a total of $25,000.00 and to engage 50 walkers/runners. The funds raised from this event will go towards supporting our numerous programs and services that we have to offer our membership like camp trailblazers, our leadership retreat and telephone workshop series. In selecting AboutFace as your charity of choice, if you raise over $250.00 you will be reimbursed your entry fee!
