Since 1979, Aptus Treatment Centre, a non-profit charity for children and adults with complex disabilities, has been achieving potential by providing individuals with complex needs quality support through person-centred planning, and creating opportunities for greater social inclusion. High quality of life includes a focuses on health and wellness. Health and Wellness is not only a major component of how we provide support to the individuals we serve at Aptus, but also how Aptus employees sustain self-care and maintain a balanced lifestyle.
The Scotiabank Marathon provides Aptus with the opportunity to emphasize this importance on health and well-being, and an event where our staff and the people we support can enjoy a fun-filled day of exercise and excitement together.
Your funds this year will be allocated to Health and Wellness programs, internally and externally at Aptus. Internally, this includes improved sports equipment, such as new gym mats and sports balls, and new sensory equipment that offers a variety of exploration and movement. We would also allocate some of our funds externally to our Camp Jordan, Aptus' unique summer camp experience for adults with complex disabilities. Camp Jordan provides the opportunity for the adults we support to experience nature, seek new adventures in the outdoors, learn valuable life and social skill building exercises, and enjoy the outdoors in a safe setting. It is our goal to secure a permanent space for Camp Jordan to operate out of every summer. Many of these individuals would normally not have the opportunity to experience anything like Camp Jordan otherwise.
So join us this October, and run, walk, or wheel your way for a great cause with Team Aptus! This is a fun-filled opportunity to raise funds to improve the lives of children and adults with complex disabilities.
