The Arthritis Society has a long history of generating support through runs like the Scotiabank Charity Challenge. The Society has similar events through our Joints in Motion program which gives fundraising participants the opportunity to run medium and long-distance events in exotic locales around the world. A choice to run for The Arthritis Society in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon is a choice to support more than 4.6 million Canadians living with arthritis in three main categories:
The opportunities today for revolutionary breakthroughs in arthritis research are truly staggering, but we must increase our commitment to get there. Specifically, we look to prevent, detect and treat arthritis before it takes hold of a person's life.
For those with arthritis, we know that the system of care they receive can be improved. We need more healthcare professionals who have the best arthritis training possible, to help people to manage and eliminate the pain of arthritis.
When you are diagnosed with one of life's toughest chronic diseases, community matters — and so does having access to the education and resources you need. Through workshops and other events, through online learning tools and other resources, we help people learn to be effective self-managers of their disease — and understand that they're not alone. In return, we are offering you and your team event coordination and logistical support in the days leading up to the marathon. We are excited to promote the teams and individuals supporting The Society through our social media and newsletter channels.
The Society is grateful for the generosity of the many personal, corporate, and government donors who support our mission. In addition, we thank the thousands of participants who participate in fundraising initiatives like our signature Walk to Fight Arthritis happening across the country on June 5, 2016.
