Make a difference in the lives of those with Asperger Syndrome by supporting the Aspergers Society of Ontario in this year's Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon Charity Challenge.
Last year, we raised over $30,000 with support from the community. This year, we're raising the bar. Help us reach our aggressive goal of $60,000 so that we can:
- Establish a Help Line for individuals, families and caregivers of individuals with Asperger Syndrome to help deliver essential information, consultation and referral services;
- Provide more online support resources;
- Match funds provided for post-secondary education scholarships.

Understanding Asperger Syndrome
Asperger Syndrome is an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) characterized by:
- difficulties in social interaction and communication;
- restricted, stereotypical interests and activities;
- average or above average intelligence.
Did you know:
- ASDs affect about one in 150 individuals
- An estimated 74,356 individuals in Ontario are living with an ASD.
- Asperger Syndrome is being diagnosed with increased frequency
- Many individuals are not diagnosed until well into adolescence or adulthood;
- Those with Asperger Syndrome find it difficult to function well in school and at work;
- The affects of untreated Asperger Syndrome can include: dropping out of school; substance abuse; unemployment; homelessness; secondary psychiatric issues; suicide, and more.
About the Aspergers Society of Ontario
The Aspergers Society of Ontario was founded in 2000 by parents of children with Asperger Syndrome and concerned professionals. It is the only agency in Ontario that is solely devoted to serving the population with Asperger Syndrome.
The mission of the Aspergers Society of Ontario is to provide education, resources and support to individuals diagnosed or potentially diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, their families, educators, medical and mental health professionals, employers, the government and community at large, to enable individuals with Asperger Syndrome to realize their gifts and engage as fully contributing members of the community.
