Autism Ontario — Durham Region is a regional chapter of Autism Ontario (formerly known as Autism Society Ontario), a charitable organization dedicated to ensuring that every individual with Autism Spectrum Disorder is provided the means to achieve quality of life as a respected member of society.
1 out of every 150 children is diagnosed with autism, a life-long developmental disability affecting communication, behaviour and social skills. Although there is treatment for autism, there is no cure.
Currently serving hundreds of families, Autism Ontario — Durham Region is comprised of parents and others who volunteer their time to fulfill the chapter's mission to provide information, support, friendship and more to families living with autism spectrum disorders in Durham Region. We rely on donations from individuals and members of the business community to fund our programs and services.
We are participating in the 2008 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon to help raise awareness about autism, as well as much-needed funds to meet the ever-increasing demand for our programs and services, including our family funding program, parent support groups, resource, education and awareness programs, as well as our social learning opportunities for individuals with autism and their families, and more.
Joining our team entitles you to a discounted registration fee of $25 for the 5 km event, and $50 for the Marathon or Half-Marathon.
Team members who raise $200 or more in pledges for Autism Ontario — Durham Region are eligible to have their registration fees reimbursed after the marathon.
