In North America, 160,000 children stay home from school daily because they are afraid of the bully at their school. We want to change that. Sixty percent of students pretend to be someone else when they are online. Of those, seventeen percent do so because they want to "act mean to people and get away with it". (Media Awareness Network, 2005) We want to change that.
Bullies grow up to be bullies and often bully coworkers, causing such high levels of stress that many adults must change jobs. Children and youth have the right to an education in Canada and adults have the right to earn a living. Brandon Street Community Development Foundation recognizes this and has been working to help schools and communities to develop a better way.
Run with us this year at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon and help us raise awareness and funds to build better communities in Ontario. We are building a “Circle of Friendship” and every brick raised represents $100.00 that will help equip a classroom with the tools to create positive and respectful learning environments. With your help we can eliminate the sense of fear from schools and end the cycle of bullying and violence that so often accompanies incidents of bullying.
