Canadian Humanitarian provides funds to Ethiopian projects that support destitute children in a holistic way so that the children can attend school until they graduate. As well, the children, their siblings, and their caregivers eat well and have medical and dental care. In past years, Canadian Humanitarian has been able to raise, through the Toronto Waterfront Marathon, between about $5,000 to $10,000 annually. About a third of our runners have volunteered in Ethiopia, and have seen in person how much the children there appreciate Canadian Humanitarian's support. That is why we are so keen to participate in the Marathon and recruit others to run.
The holistic approach of Canadian Humanitarian has proven to be extremely successful in poverty eradication. About 85% of funds collected go directly to the Ethiopian projects rather than administrative costs. Canadian Humanitarian, as a Canada-wide organization, raised over $800,000 through all its events in the last fiscal year. The Toronto Chapter's goal for the 2015 Waterfront Marathon is to recruit runners to collectively fundraise at least $10,000, which is enough to support 30 children to attend school, and their caregivers and siblings for a year. As a volunteer chapter of Canadian Humanitarian, the Toronto Chapter has the support of the Head Office staff in Medicine Hat to assist with organizing, fundraising, and recruiting runners.
If you join us as a fund-raising runner, we promise you the joy of knowing that you have made a huge difference to the lives of bright and eager children, and have given them hope and a future. When you sign up for the Marathon, please indicate Canadian Humanitarian as the charity that you are raising funds for.
