Help us kick our fundraising goals into high gear on Sunday October 16, 2011 by walking, jogging, or running a 5K, half marathon or full marathon in support of the Creative Works Studio. Or, you can sponsor somebody who is participating!
Our goal is to raise $15,000 to help the members of the studio exercise their creative muscles, ensuring the existence of art in community mental health!

The Creative Works Studio, an initiative of the St. Michael's Hospital's Inner City Health in partnership with Good Sheppard Non-Profit Housing Inc., is a community-based studio that offers healing and recovery through creative art for people living with serious and persistent mental illness.
At the Creative Works Studio our key goal is to help increase our members' desire to participate in life again in creative ways that can raise their self-esteem, become part of a creative community, and say yes to life again! Our first research study conducted in 2008 has shown the positive impact the studio has on members, including an improved sense of well-being, increased participation in other occupations, and renewed hope for the future.
Our members, who rely on the Creative Works Studio can best express what the studio means to them.
“I have suffered with severe mental illness since my teen years. I am now in my 50s... On my worst days, when I can barely get out of bed and everything seems to be too much I get on the subway and streetcar and go to 793 Gerrard Street. There, I am among friends, among people who have felt embarrassment and shame at having an illness we didn't ask for... I believe that programs like the Creative Arts Studio are what make St. Mike's a great hospital. St. Mike's cares for and elevates the poor and despairing sufferers of mental illness and pushes them to new heights through art and creation. Thank you for helping me when I needed it the most.”
If you can't make it out, you can still participate by encouraging and supporting others to walk, run, or jog a 5K, half marathon, or full marathon.
