Dignitas International dramatically increases access to effective HIV/AIDS-related prevention, treatment, care and support in resource-limited settings through developing and sharing community-based solutions. Dignitas was founded and is led by Dr. James Orbinski and James Fraser, both formerly of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF/Doctors Without Borders). Dr. Orbinski accepted the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize as International President of MSF, and has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada.
Dignitas International works with local and national health institutions to increase access to HIV/AIDS-related prevention, treatment, care and support through ongoing training, support and direct service provision. Program activities include:
Dignitas places an emphasis on the development of community-based approaches to extend the reach and impact of existing health facilities. Over the next three years, Dignitas will extend services from Zomba to five additional districts, expanding its reach from 700,000 to 3.1 million people.
