Run, Walk, Wheel... join the Gerstein Centre team at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon on Sunday, October 20th and help the thousands of Torontonians living with mental health difficulties.
For the past 2 decades, Gerstein Crisis Centre has helped individuals who are living with a serious mental health issue get through difficult times of crisis. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, our dedicated and experienced staff helps people in crisis on our telephone crisis line, in the community through our mobile crisis team and at our 10-bed short stay residence. This safe, comfortable and supported environment offers residents crisis counselling and an opportunity to get linked up with ongoing supports and services in their own community.
Since Gerstein-on-Bloor opened its doors 5 years ago, hundreds of men and women have found help with housing, counseling. Gerstein-on-Bloor offers a longer stay (up to 30 days) and has two short-term residential crisis bed programs under one roof. 5 of the 14 beds are designated for women who are experiencing a mental health crisis and are currently homeless. Nine beds are reserved for individuals who have recent involvement with the criminal justice system and are experiencing a mental health crisis. Although only in operation for 3 years, Gerstein-on-Bloor has already helped hundreds of men and women with housing, counseling, addictions, nutrition and life skills. When they leave us, it is with a fresh start and renewed hope for the future.
100% of donations raised through the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon will go to our 'Amenities Fund' which supports those who use Gerstein Centre in very direct and practical ways. In the past, this fund has been used to buy emergency winter clothing, replace broken eyeglasses, provide emergency transportation, prescription medication when not covered by a drug plan and much more. These seemingly small expenditures make an enormous and long-lasting difference in the lives of our clients.
