Run, Walk, Wheel… join the Gerstein Centre team at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon on Sunday, October 19th and help people living with serious mental health difficulties work towards a life of wellness.
For more than 2 decades, Gerstein Crisis Centre has helped individuals who are living with a serious mental health issue get through difficult times. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, our dedicated and experienced staff helps people in crisis on our telephone crisis line, in the community through our mobile crisis team, at our 10-bed short stay residence and since 2007, at our 14-bed Gerstein-on-Bloor house. This safe, comfortable and supported environment offers residents crisis counselling and an opportunity to connect with ongoing supports and services in their own community. Whether the stay is just a few days at Gerstein-on-Charles or at our 30-day Gerstein-on-Bloor, individuals will often leave with a fresh start and renewed hope for the future.
100% of donations raised through the 2014 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon will go directly to our 'FRESH' (Finding Recovery through Exercise, Skills and Hope) Program. The FRESH Program reaches out to adults who are living with a mental health issue and want to increase their physical activity, improve their sense of wellness and strengthen social engagement and connections to the community. People may choose to participate in one-to-one gym sessions with a peer worker or in group activities like yoga, bocce ball, floor hockey or walking. Through involvement in the FRESH Program as a participant or as a FRESH peer worker, people have the opportunity to explore what makes them feel well, while connecting with others with lived experience to share knowledge and skills as they work towards recovery.
