Come join us, as we run and walk on October 20th, 2013 in support of adult literacy programs in Toronto and York Region.
For 35 years, The Metro Toronto Movement for Literacy has been a voice for adult literacy in Toronto and York Region. We're a network of 31 agency partners, helping nearly 10,000 people every year get the basic skills they need in reading, writing, math and computers, as they work toward their goals in employment, further education, or greater independence.
We provide a voice for adult literacy in Toronto and York Region. We collaborate with our members to share knowledge, build awareness and promote confidence and lifelong learning needed to better participate in the community.
According to the International Adult Literacy Skills Survey (IALS), an astounding 42% of Canadians have reading, writing and numeracy skills below the level considered necessary for the demands of modern life and work. That's 1.5 million people in Toronto and York Region alone!
So there's lots of work to be done, but limited funds to do it!
The money raised will go towards MTML and adult literacy programs throughout Toronto and York Region. We will also use the money to support our annual Learners' Conference, where over 200 adult learners come together for a day each year, to learn about such things as financial literacy, healthy eating on a budget, and basic tenant rights.
