For many people living in northern Toronto, hunger is a part of life. Thirteen percent of our clients say that they go hungry at least once per week and so do their children.
Help North York Harvest Food Bank staff, volunteers and friends secure the essentials for people in our community. Now more than ever, the North York Harvest Food Bank is committed to ensuring that every person who comes through our doors has access to culturally appropriate and personally acceptable foods. By the end of 2008, the North York Harvest Food Bank wants to guarantee food bank clients whole grain products, canned beans and vegetables, and baby food to better feed themselves and their families.
Help us step to the plate. Please walk, run and wheel to help us feed those in need and work to reduce hunger.
The North York Harvest Food Bank works towards relieving hunger in communities throughout northern Toronto, from St. Clair to Steeles and from the 427 to Victoria Park. We support emergency food programs, partner with perinatal programs, advocate for change on issues affecting food bank use and works with like-minded organizations to develop innovative and respectful ways for our clients to access culturally appropriate and personally acceptable food at no cost.
The North York Harvest Food Bank collects, sorts and distributes, free of charge, about one million pounds of food annually to a network of more than 60 community programs that provide food to approximately 25,000 people monthly. Programs include emergency food programs; community kitchens; drop-in centres; early parenting programs; before- and after-school snack programs; campus food banks; and shelters for youth and women.
