For more than fifty years, the NYOC has enjoyed a reputation as Canada's premiere orchestral training program, providing the most comprehensive and in-depth training available to our country's young classical musicians. Our mission is to recruit Canada's best young classical musicians ages 16-28 and to train and mentor them for careers as professional orchestral musicians with great orchestras such as the Toronto Symphony, the Canadian Opera Company, the National Ballet of Canada, Vancouver Symphony, Calgary Philharmonic, Montreal Symphony, and others across Canada and around the word. More than one-third of Canada's professional orchestral musicians are alumni of the NYOC.
The NYOC's summer training institute and concert tour is a tuition-free program which attracts musicians from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and our auditions guarantee admission based on merit rather than financial ability. Upon completion of the program, each musician receives a $1,000 scholarship. In addition, six Awards of Excellence worth $5,000 are awarded to our very top musicians. Similar to the commitment and sacrifice made by competitive athletes training for the Olympics, NYOC wants to ensure that each orchestra member has adequate financial resources to enable them to focus exclusively on their summer musical educational and training and concert tour experience with the NYOC.
All funds raised through the NYOC's campaign during the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon will be designated to the NYOC's scholarship program. Our 2014 goal is to raise $25,000 to fund 25 scholarships of $1000 each for members of the 2015 orchestra.
We hope you will join Team "Molto Presto" this year to raise funds in support of Canada's next generation of orchestral musicians!
