Engineers Without Borders Canada — Run To End Poverty

Run to End Poverty   Engineers Without Borders

It's time for Canadians to step up to the starting line and help reduce poverty in Africa

In sub-Saharan Africa, 47% of the population live in extreme poverty. At Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Canada we believe that poverty is not caused by the absence of things, but rather by broken systems. Because of this, we establish partnerships with local communities and drive our ventures in Canada and Africa, to accelerate rural African development.

Every year, EWB holds the Run to End Poverty (R2EP), a Canada-wide event that aims to bring people together with one common goal: to eliminate poverty in rural Africa. R2EP is proud to participate in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (STWM); and joining the run is an important step Canadians can take to help with this great cause.

Why support R2EP?

With every dollar raised, with every kilometre trained and with every orange shirt that crosses the finish line, participants help connect the skills and ambition of EWB's African partners to real opportunities. The R2EP also generates an immense level of awareness and understanding in Canada.

The development sector has long-been plagued by the story of poverty in Africa. We want to change the course of that story. While there are injustices in this world, we believe in the possibility of something better. Africa is a continent with many different voices and unique challenges. It is also of place of creative and intellectual people. We believe in unlocking this potential.

Join us, and believe in possibility. Through R2EP we have the opportunity to reach out to thousands of people across the country with the message that we can and will defeat poverty. Through smart programs in Canada and in Africa, R2EP's support for EWB can create a positive change in our world.

This is why we come together, why we run and why we are so bright and so loud on race day. We run for a reason: to outsmart poverty.
