Nutritious food helps create a healthy body. A healthy body is the basis of a healthy life. Healthy lives are the foundation of healthy, vibrant communities. Help Second Harvest contribute to the health and welfare of all our communities across Toronto!
Second Harvest picks up donated, good-quality fresh food, which would otherwise go to waste, and delivers that food to the front lines of hunger—to community centres, shelters, breakfast programs and drop-in centres.
Second Harvest currently provides nutritious food for about 14,000 meals a day to agencies serving children in need, seniors on fixed incomes, women fleeing domestic abuse, homeless people, the working poor struggling to make ends meet and many others who have fallen on hard times. Over 40% of our recipients are children and youth.
Each morning our refrigerated trucks leave our Downsview warehouse and travel throughout the G.T.A. to collect perishable food from grocery stores, food manufacturers and distributors, and caterers. The food is then delivered to over 250 social service programs in the Greater Toronto Area.
Join the Second Harvest team on Sunday, September 28th to help us raise funds to continue providing fresh, nutritious food to those in need in Toronto. Second Harvest is pleased to offer free registration to the first 10 runners who register for the half marathon before July 1st 2008! If you need a good reason to run, run for Second Harvest. If you can't join us on the day, please consider showing your support by sponsoring a runner, or making a donation at www.secondharvest.ca.
If you have any questions about participating in this event, or other Second Harvest events, please contact Jordan Mlynek, Special Events Coordinator at 416-408-2594 ext. 227 or jordanm@secondharvest.ca.
