Join the Second Harvest Team, fundraise and then participate in the run on Sunday, October 19. Make your run or walk more meaningful by helping us reach our goal of $10,000 which will provide 20,000 healthy meals for hungry Torontonians.
Second Harvest feeds those who are hungry in our city by collecting donated perishable food, that would otherwise go to waste, and delivering that food to over 200 social service agencies in Toronto. Last year we rescued over 7.4 million lbs of food, and prevented over one million lbs of greenhouse gases from entering our atmosphere due to the food we diverted from landfills.
Second Harvest provides enough fresh food for over 20,000 healthy meals a day to agencies serving children in need, seniors living on fixed incomes, women fleeing domestic abuse, homeless people, newcomers to Canada, and many others who have fallen on hard times. An astonishing 40% of our recipients are children and youth.
Each morning, 8 refrigerated trucks and 1 van travel from our warehouse and collect surplus perishable food that is donated by restaurants, grocery stores, food manufacturers, distributors, and caterers. That food is then delivered to over 200 social service agencies in Toronto, feeding those who are hungry.
Walk or run with the Second Harvest Team on October 19th and help Second Harvest feed Toronto's hungry.
