FEATURED CHARITY of the 2010 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon

Second Harvest

Second Harvest - delivering fresh surplus food to those in need.

Help mark Second Harvest's 25th anniversary by joining our team in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon and help us feed those who are hungry!

Join the Second Harvest Team, fundraise and then participate in the run on Sunday, September 26th. Our goal is to raise $30,000 which equals 60,000 meals for hungry Torontonians.

What We Do

Second Harvest feeds those who are hungry in our city by collecting donated perishable food, that would otherwise go to waste, and delivering that food to over 200 social service agencies in the GTA. Last year we rescued almost 6 million lbs of food, and prevented over one million lbs of greenhouse gases from entering our atmosphere due to the food we diverted from landfills.

Who We Help

Second Harvest provides enough fresh food for over 15,000 healthy meals a day to agencies serving children in need, seniors living on fixed incomes, women fleeing domestic abuse, homeless people, newcomers to Canada, and many others who have fallen on hard times. An astonishing 40% of our recipients are children and youth.

How We Do It

Each morning, seven refrigerated trucks travel from our warehouse and collect surplus perishable food that is donated by restaurants, grocery stores, food manufacturers, distributors, and caterers. That food is then delivered to over 200 social service agencies in the GTA, feeding those who are hungry.
