The Shayam Kaushal Charitable Foundation was created to honour the memory and philanthropy of Shayam Kaushal who valiantly battled osteosarcoma (bone cancer) for eight years and succumbed to the disease in 2009, at the age of 40.
Prior to diagnosis, Shayam was an avid runner who ran 5 km each day. He in fact was training to run his first full marathon in 2001 when he realized that there was a problem with his leg. Having lost many abilities due to numerous surgeries, Shayam often said that the loss of his ability to run was his greatest regret. Running was his passion. As such, The Shayam Kaushal Charitable Foundation is thrilled to be involved with the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon.
It is the mission of The Shayam Kaushal Charitable Foundation to raise money for worthy causes and spread Hope, Strength and Determination to those in need. Shayam lived his life by those three guiding principles and inspired those around him to carry on that legacy forever. Since its inception in 2009, the Foundation has raised and donated money to such worthy causes as cancer research at Mt. Sinai Hospital, The Terry Fox Foundation, and most recently, Autism Ontario. The Shayam Kaushal Charitable Foundation relies solely on the generosity of private donors to meet its fundraising goals. By joining the SKCF team, you would be helping to spread hope, strength and determination to those in need within the community. Please visit our website at www.theshayamkaushalfoundation.com for more information.
You can help by joining our team or by sponsoring a participant who is already committed to the run. All we ask of participants is that they raise a minimum of $100 in pledges.
Please join us on Oct 20, 2013. For more information, please contact Kiran Kaushal at 416 445 4890 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
