St. Christopher House is a non-profit United Way agency and is not affiliated with any religious denomination or group. We have served the multicultural neighbourhoods of southwest Toronto since 1912. Our central purpose is the enabling of less advantaged individuals, families and groups in the community to gain greater control over their lives and community.
St. Christopher House is governed by a fifteen-member Board of Directors, who are elected by the voting membership of St. Christopher House. Program services are delivered by over 200 full-time and part-time staff and over 1,000 volunteers.
We operate out of six facilities, offering a broad range of community-based social service programs serving people of all ages. In all, we serve over 12,000 people a year.
The "House" was a pioneer organization in the social services. It introduced many of the program ideas now well established across Canada such as Healthy baby programs, neighbourhood children's libraries, Meals-on-Wheels, Home Help, and basic level Adult Literacy training. Our program for violence against women was the first to begin service to children who are witness to violence in the home and we continue to serve those who have experienced violence as well as conduct active education programs in local schools designed to help children develop healthy relationships.
St. Christopher House has as its central purpose the enabling of less-advantaged individuals, families, and groups in the community to gain greater control over their lives and their community.
St. Christopher House is a neighbourhood-based, multi-service agency in the west end of downtown Toronto. We are a team of volunteers, participants and staff who develop programs in response to community need and promote socio-economic conditions in which individuals and families can thrive. Please see a description of St. Christopher House and our services at our website at www.stchrishouse.org.
