Ontario Minister of Labour, Peter Fonseca, confirmed to run Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront 5K RUN

Put a PLEDGE on him for "A Run for Liane: in support of cancer research at Sick Kids Hospital"

Peter Fonseca

"I have been running all my life. Whether it is running in the Olympics or with my kids in the park, it has always enabled me to connect with myself on various levels. Nothing else would be more spectacular than to run with thousands of people from different places and cultures. I thank the entire team of Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon for organizing a world class sporting event in the heart of Ontario.

"I am especially pleased to be running this year to help raise funds for "A Run for Liane", which supports cancer research at The Hospital for Sick Children. Your support would be greatly appreciated!!!"

Peter is MPP for Mississauga East as well as Minister of Labour. Before he started running hard for his Mississauga constituents and Queen's Park, he was one of Canada's best-ever marathoners.

Peter was the winner of the 1995 Houston Marathon, was 2nd at the old Toronto Marathon in 1994, 2nd at the LA Marathon in 1990, third at the prestigious New York Marathon in '92. He was the top Canadian in the Olympic Marathon in Atlanta in '96, finishing 21st overall. His PR of 2:11:34 is the 5th fastest time ever run by a Canadian, and he is the only Olympian in the Ontario Legislature.

"We're delighted to have Minister Fonseca doing the Waterfront 5K," said Race Director Alan Brookes. "His record and his participation are an inspiration for all Canadian marathoners. It's great to see he's still 'walking the walk,' not just 'talking the talk'. As one of Ontario's leading citizens, it's terrific that he's leading by example."
