TORONTO. January 24. Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon has been named the Best Marathon (Eastern Canada) in Get Out There magazine's 2010 Readers' Choice Awards. The awards, now in their sixth year, recognize the people, places, events and organizations that support active living in Canada.
Get Out There readers chose STWM over Ottawa and all their other Eastern rivals for the fourth year in succession. “We are delighted to maintain our hold on this award,” said Race Director Alan Brookes. “It's especially valued because it's a 'Readers' Choice' award — recognition from the actual runners of Eastern Canada that STWM is the best out there, as an all-round, big-city marathon. 2010 was perhaps extra special with Reid Coolsaet's Olympic-qualifying run, new men's and women's All-comers records, and $2.5 million raised for charity. But this award is special because it's about the quality of the race, the organization, the on-course entertainment, the charities, the costumes, the spectators, the atmosphere and overall experience. Our team are pumped, and already working extra hard to make 2011 even better, and justify the running community's support for us!”
There are 30 categories in Get Out There's Readers' Choice Awards, from “Best Marathon” to “Best Health Club” and “Best Place to Buy Running Shoes”. Winners are determined by the highest number of reader votes in each category. A record 1,621 votes were cast in the 2010 awards. www.getouttheremag.com/rca.php
