14 November 2005. Three, resounding cheers of CONGRATULATIONS to Ed Whitlock for his marvellous, well-deserved recognition in NYC last weekend as a Runners World "Hero of the Year". Make sure you pick up a copy of RW mag, December issue.

To give you some idea of the magnitude of this award, Ed's fellow recipients for 2005 included women's marathon legend Grete Waitz (9-time NYC Marathon winner), Paula Radcliffe, and America's World Championship Gold Medallists, Justin Gatlin and Lauryn Williams. Heady company indeed, at the celebrity Awards Night at a swish restaurant on 3rd Avenue.

According to RW, "Ed Whitlock has rewritten the book on aging and performance."

Ed was fabulous in his acceptance speech, and had everyone in the global-running, VIP-crowd in stitches: "I'm not sure what to say. I don't have a manager. I don't have a coach. I don't have a trainer. I don't take any supplements. I don't accept any commercial endorsements..."

Hooray for Ed, a true Canadian/worldwide running hero, a gentleman, a true role model and inspiration for us all!

And Ed has just confirmed, everything being equal, he'll run Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon 2006 (September 24th), and attempt to become the first 75 year old on the planet to go under 3 hours. This is a fabulous opportunity for everyone in the Canadian running community to be part of an historic day. Enter today at www.torontowaterfrontmarathon.com....
