George Smitherman tunes up for Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon
The Minister of the Marathon, Hon. George Smitherman, Ontario Minister of Health tunes up for the Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon with a group of 10 Scotiabank MarathonKIDS from Grenoble Public School.
Next Sunday, September 24th, the minister will run the whole 42 kilometres to raise $100,000 for his charity The George Hull Centre for Children & Families. The kids are part of a new pilot project supported by Scotiabank that has 1,000 public school children from around the city doing short runs each day at their schools to get them to 37 kilometres by Waterfront Marathon weekend. They will then run the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront 5K on the 24th and become MarathonKIDS!
Thanks to Scotiabank's sponsorship, the programme is entirely free for the children and their schools, and is designed to promote a healthy lifestyle and a little bit of exercise every day for the kids at the beginning of their school year.
