Most of us will never run with the elites, except maybe in our mind, but all of us have, at some point in our running 'careers', felt amazing about what we've accomplished. THAT feeling is like soaring like an eagle - knowing you did your best, feeling like you can do anything.

The Tune-Up Run program is designed to give you opportunities to hook up with other runners (and walkers) to train for the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, Half or 5k.

 

Schedule for each run:

 

8:00-8:30am - Running Room staff open store - runners & walkers welcome

 

8:20am - Intro & brief talk ...with a brief welcome by the Waterfront staff and introduction to any Pace Bunnies on hand that day

 

8:30am - Group Runs & Walks

 

After run & walk - come back into the Running Room for water & Gatorade

We have 30 Pace Bunnies set to guide you on race day for both the full and half marathon. Aiming to qualify for Boston? We have most times covered. Aiming to reach a milestone time? We probably have you covered. Here are a couple on the team:

Three-time Boston marathon finisher. Jeff has been a pace-bunny for STWM since 2010 and returns for a second time as a pace fairy for the Midsummer Night's Run this year. Jeff is looking forward to meeting and pacing new people to their Boston qualifiers on race day,

Cindy is in her first season with Canada Running Series. She has attended marathons around the world with a charity-fundraising program, acting as the lead and taking teams of up to 50 people to Disneyworld, Bahamas, France, Peru and Iceland. She's always looking for volunteers to help out at races and needs over 3,500 to help out at STWMIn her off-time, Cindy coaches figure skating and tries to keep up with her rambunctious Labrador retriever, Chip

Heather has been working with CRS for 3 seasons and "lives for race day."  Heather's main responsibilities include the start & finish line planning and execution, which allows her to experience your pre-race excitement and share in your triumph as you cross the finish line.  She is also a mid-pack runner who loves the mental clarity that running provides - "some of my best ideas are born while running."

Tips from a 60-marathon plus veteran
Water

 

Sweating depletes your body of water and salts. The harder you breathe, the more water escapes through your respiratory system. As your body runs low on liquids and you become increasingly dehydrated, your total blood volume drops. Your heart must pump at a higher rate to circulate the same amount of blood, diverting needed blood and performance energy from your large running muscles.

 

Sweating keeps you cool and must be replaced or your performance will be affected. Drink water-roughly one cup of water for every 15 minutes of running.

 

Wear your torso pack with your water bottle. Drink prior to your run, and drink water throughout the day. Keep a bottle on your desk, in your car, and your bedside. Water is one of the best ways to suppress your appetite and cut back on unnecessary calories, increase your energy level, help you sleep better and even improve your memory.
