Don't worry, be ready!


Your Race Day Plan

  1. Pack only what you can fit into the clear baggage bag you got in your race kit.
  2. Plan your route TO the start area. Make sure to check the website for road closure information so you don't get caught in them trying to get to your start.
  3. Plan to park at least 500m from the start/Nathan Phillips Square as roads are closed that far anyway. The exception would be parking in the Eaton Centre from Yonge Street.
  4. Plan to be at Nathan Phillips getting your bearings an hour before, meaning 7:45am, for the half and full marathons.
  5. If doing the 5k, your start is at the CNE so give yourself time to park near there or take our shuttle buses from Richmond & University to the CNE (but only between 6:00 - 7:00am).
  6. That hour you give yourself at the start lets you check out where everything is and relax!
  7. Plan to check in your baggage rather than let loved ones hold it for you just in case it's hard to find them at the end. They won't be able to see you for about 15 minutes after you cross the line so better to have your bag waiting for you in our baggage tent.
  8. Get to your start corral with plenty of time to spare.
  9. Stick to your planned pace for the race! Don't get pulled along by others because you 'feel good' in the first half.
  10. Enjoy yourself and smile for the cameras!

Scenic run starts in renovated Downsview Park, flies you through Downsview Airport's taxiway and through some city streets. Positive Self-Talk


It's not just race day that needs positive self-talk, it's every day. You are doing something related to your running every day - reading, surfing the Internet, crosstraining, resting, even running! - so it's important that you tell yourself positive things to keep you motivated and focused. Many have found these to be helpful to read regularly...


-       I am in control of my own thinking, my own focus, my own life.

-       I control my own thoughts and emotions and direct the whole pattern of my performance, health and life.

-       I am fully capable of achieving the goals I set for myself today. They are within my control.

-       I learn from problems or setbacks and through them I see room for improvement and opportunities for personal growth.

-       Every day in some way I am better, wiser, more adaptable, more focused, more confident, more in control.


One of the more experienced runners around, Running Room founder and owner, John Stanton provides weekly tips for getting through the marathon and half marathon.

Marathon Flame Celebrations - You're All Invited!

All are invited to join us on Thursday, October 17th for the Official Flame Lighting & Opening Ceremonies! At 6:30pm in Alexander The Great Parkette, Mayor Iordanis Louizos of Marathon, Greece and a modern-day "Pheidippides" will deliver the Flame to Councillor Mary Fragedakis, Consul General Dimitris Azemopoulos, Race Director Alan Brookes and some of our Top Athletes.

Scotiabank Charity Challenge 2013

Last year over $4.3 million was raised for 181 local charities! Go the distance for one of over 180 charities in this year's Scotiabank Charity Challenge!

Scripture Union Canada is running to help send kids of all abilities to camp - "Every Kid Camp"! There is a huge need for summer camps that enable siblings to attend camp together - those with disabilities and those without. Every year kids with disabilities are turned away from camps because they just don't have the supportive programming, staff or facilities necessary to be included. We want to change that! Join our team on October 20 and change a kid's life!  

Many individuals have said that they feel as though their lives have been caught in a tailspin of often uncontrolled seizure activity, unanswered questions and fear and isolation. Epilepsy Ontario and the 16 local agencies, associates and contacts help by offering information, support, and advocacy services to help individuals and their families regain control of their lives. Epilepsy support agencies help people live well with their condition. Your support can continue the work of our agencies while advocating for change to improve the quality of life for those living with epilepsy in Ontario.
